Are TV shows like this still being made?
Although we can now kill time with shows like Call the Midwife, The Tourist and reality shows like Love Island, Strictly Come Dancing and I’m a Celebrity, there’s no denying the fact that old TV shows were truly the best.
From “London Burning” to “Where the Heart Is,” take a look at some great TV shows that are no longer on the air. Whether it’s old soap operas, game shows like “Don’t Try This At Home,” or kids’ TV, they were all great.
TV shows you’d like to see brought back:
Soccer players’ wives
Airing from 2002 to 2006, Footballers’ Wives followed the fictional Premier League football club Earls Park and the drama surrounding its players and their passionate wives.
Bad Boys
Set in a fictional women’s prison, Bad Girls aired on ITV from 1996 to 2006 and featured some very famous faces, including Claire King and Debra Stephenson.
Benidorm
The ITV/STV comedy Benidorm, which ran for 10 series from 2007 to 2018, was a huge hit with fans, and since the show ended, fans have been begging creator Darren Litten to make a sequel.
invoice
The police drama The Bill first aired in 1983 and remained popular until 2010. The show focused on the life and work of police officers and starred well-known actors such as Trudy Goodwin, Graham Cole and Mark Winget.
Don’t try this at home
Does anyone remember sitting in front of the TV on a Saturday night watching Davina McCall help ordinary people tackle difficult and scary challenges?
This should come back!
Sabrina the Teenage Witch
She was confident, funny, a witch, and had a talking cat. Sabrina made us all want to be witches!
The show was rebooted as the Netflix series Sabrina: Dark Adventures from 2018 to 2020.
Ugly Betty
Believe it or not, it’s been a whopping 16 years since “Ugly Betty” last aired on television. Starring actress America Ferrera, the show follows the character Betty Suarez, who lands a job at a highly prestigious fashion magazine despite her lack of style.
Where is the heart?
Filmed in the Yorkshire town of Skelthwaite, the British drama follows the lives of local nurses and their families and proved hugely popular with audiences between 1997 and 2006.
That’s a knockout
It was silly and crazy, but definitely fun! “It’s a Knockout” first aired in 1966, and the show has been revived many times on the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
While we’d love to see Will Smith reprise the role alongside Carlton Banks, the next best thing was found when Jabari Banks played Will Smith in the Fresh Prince reboot Bel-Air, which was released earlier this year.
The stars are shining in their eyes
A real classic! Originally hosted by Leslie Crowther, Stars In Their Eyes first aired in 1990 and was taken over by Matthew Kelly in 1993. The show was revived in 2015 with Harry Hill as host, but it didn’t prove very popular.
Queen’s Nose
Who would have thought rubbing 50p coins could be so much fun? We loved watching Harmony’s adventures as she used up all her magical wishes.
gossip girl
Though the show was rebooted with a new cast in 2021, it never quite lived up to the expectations of the original series, which aired from 2007 to 2012.
Fun House
Back in the day, we all loved watching two schools battle it out over three crazy rounds. Bring back the crazy hairstyles of Gange and Pat Sharpe.
Grange Hill
We loved coming home and seeing other people at school, even though we were at school all day. It was weird. But the compelling storylines and relatable characters kept us glued to the screen.
London Flames
London Burning, which aired from 1988 to 2002, chronicled the lives of the fictional London Fire Brigade’s Blue Watch, based at the fictional Blackwall Fire Station.
The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory aired on television from 2007 to 2019. The show revolved around the friendship between two physicists who share an apartment, Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), and their neighbor across the street, Penny (Kaley Cuoco).
game of thrones
Game of Thrones aired for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019. The show starred Sean Bean as Eddard “Ned” Stark and Kit Harington as Jon Snow.
Although House of Dragons is a new prequel, I would have liked to see a continuation (or a different ending) of the original Game of Thrones TV show. Maybe there will be more episodes once the final book is published…
Many TV shows have been rebooted in recent years. See the full list here.
