What makes an action movie the “best” movie? For me, this is an action movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Name a movie full of creepy characters, wild stories, and great soundtracks. If these movies can transport me to another world and bring me back to real life in about two hours, that’s a bonus.
Luckily, Hulu has your back. If you want an action movie that’s more outrageous than gory, there’s plenty to choose from. Travel back to medieval England to a rock soundtrack or find a way to survive the zombie apocalypse with a positive attitude. So sit back and enjoy five of the best action movies streaming on Hulu right now.
“Knight’s Story”
I can’t think of any other movie that combines Queen’s “We Will Rock You” with a jousting match. This is the movie to watch if you love or hate anachronistic storytelling like “Bridgerton.” But instead of transporting the audience to British high society, filmmaker Brian Helgeland takes us into a world of knights, sword fights, and jousting. The film stars a number of talented killers, from Rufus Sewell to Heath Ledger to Paul Bettany.
A Knight’s Tale tells the story of William Thatcher (Ledger), a poor man who wants to improve his status and catch the eye of a princess (Shannyn Sossamon). To do so, he must transform into a nobleman who competes in a jousting ring with Count Adhemar (Sewell). William is supported by a group of cheerful social misfit friends, including Watt (Alan Tudyk), Roland (Mark Addy), and Chaucer (Bettany).

‘National Treasure’
When “National Treasure” was released in 2004, it caused a sensation. Numerous articles were published to assure viewers that the Declaration of Independence had not been defaced for the sake of the film (and to prove that there were no secret maps on the back). The story of this movie was wild and original and provided a new way to learn about history. Will your imagination expand? yes of course. Do you still remember what you learned from that movie about daylight saving time? You better believe it.
In National Treasure, Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) and Riley Poole (Justin Bartha) aim to unearth traces of symbols hidden in America’s historic buildings. They team up with Abigail Chase (Diane Kruger) in a race against time to steal the Declaration of Independence and find the hidden treasure before their nemesis (Sean Bean) does.

“The Lost City”
The film has hidden treasure, jungle exploration, and heavy comedy elements all thanks to Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. “The Lost City” follows romance novelist Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock), who has gone into hiding after the death of her husband. Cover model Alan Caprison (Channing Tatum tries to come to her rescue.
Loretta and Alan must make their way through the dangerous jungle to escape. Critic Wenley Ma wrote, “The Lost City is exactly the kind of classic romantic comedy adventure that is elevated from great to raucous thanks to the presence of Sandra Bullock.” ” he wrote.

‘Little Monster’
There are so many iterations of zombie movies that it’s hard to think of a situation that looks new and fresh. But Little Monsters, which opened at Sundance, found its charm while also adding a healthy dose of gory humor. Critics praised Nyong’o as a feisty kindergarten teacher who comes up with elaborate excuses for slow, brain-eating zombies to keep her students calm.
In order to get closer to his kindergarten teacher, Miss Audrey (Lupita Nyong’o), Dave (Alexander Englund) volunteers to lead a school trip to a local farm. But when a group of zombies escapes from a military installation and takes over the farm, Miss Audrey and Dave must work together to calm the children and keep them alive.

“Snowpiercer”
Still, if you’re looking for a cutting-edge action movie that actually puts the stakes in perspective, I’ve got your back. “Snowpiece” transports us to a climate dystopia. There, the sole survivor recreates society in a 1,000-car train. Chris Evans plays Curtis, a member of the underclass who struggles to move from the back of the vehicle to the front, where the poorest people live. He must confront Director Mason (Tilda Swinton). The film was directed by Bung Joon-ho, who would go on to direct “Parasite,” which won the Best Picture Oscar.
The film received rave reviews when it was first released. It currently has a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Atlantic’s David Sims wrote that Snowpiercer:[t]It’s a rare experience that you don’t get much of in the summer anymore, and it’s a ferocious, original action movie that will make you grab your chest and scream in your ears. ”
