AI hardware seems to be everywhere.
After OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November 2022, a number of science fiction products have appeared.
These are the five AI-powered devices announced, from the AI Pin to Meta sunglasses.
AI-powered technology hardware is having a golden moment.
Ever since OpenAI announced ChatGPT in November 2022, companies have been racing to cash in on the generative AI hype. Big tech companies like Meta and Google are building their own large-scale language models, and AI startups are raising hundreds of millions of dollars to create tools that save time and improve productivity.
Some companies are taking their AI efforts to the next level and integrating AI into their flashy new consumer devices. Technology analyst Jonny Ives called this new frontier of hardware innovation the “golden goose” for technology leaders for the next decade.
So far, some major projects have been kept secret.
Rumors are swirling that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is working with iPhone designer Jony Ives to develop a consumer AI device. Apple plans to integrate AI capabilities into the iPhone, iPad, and MacOS as it ramps up its efforts in generative AI, Bloomberg reports. Details about these products are not yet known.
But some companies are already ahead of the curve and bringing shiny new AI toys to market. Here are his six AI-powered devices announced since the launch of ChatGPT:

AI Pin includes a camera, sensors, speakers, a “trust light” that flashes while recording, and a small projector that can shine information into your hand. It leverages his GPT-4, the large language model behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Users can ask Ping to play a specific song or answer questions through voice commands, Humane said. The company says the device’s camera can also provide data about the world around it, such as showing you how much protein is in a handful of almonds when you point it at it.
AI Pin is available now, starting at $699, with an additional $24 monthly fee to get a dedicated mobile phone number. If you would like the pins polished to a polished finish, it will cost an additional $100.

Prophetic claims that Halo, an AI-powered headband, will give the wearer the ability to control their dreams.
Users wear Halo to bed. The startup says the headband will be able to detect when users have entered the deepest stages of sleep. When that happens, Prophetic says, it sets off a series of commands that fire ultrasound signals to the brain to induce dreams.
The company has opened registration for its beta program for early users to try out Halo, which retails for $2,000. It’s unclear whether this headband has been tested on real people outside of a lab, or if it can actually control dreams.
