Say goodbye to February and hello to March with new shows premiering this week on Netflix, Disney Plus, other streaming services, and broadcast and cable TV.
The lineup of new TV shows is led by the highly anticipated blockbuster “Shogun,” which FX and Hulu hope will be as big as “Game of Thrones.” Also on the list are popular series “Survivor 46”, “The Tourist” season 2, and “Blood and Water” season 4. Here are the top new shows to watch this week.
“Shogun” (FX/Hulu)
Every network and broadcast station is desperately looking for the next Game of Thrones (HBO solved that by simply making a prequel). Now, FX is betting on this epic epic by James Clavell, based on his 1975 novel of the same name, which is loosely based on real events and real people. Set in feudal Japan around 1600, the story follows three of his characters as their paths cross. Lord Tranga (Hiroyuki Sanada), a fearsome daimyo with a dangerous rival. And Mrs. Mariko (Anna Sawai), a woman with her disgraceful family history, must prove her worth in her unforgiving society. Expect combat, intrigue, power plays, and a bit of romance all played out to perfection. Looks like the next Game of Thrones is here.

“Elsbeth” (CBS)
A number of talented guest stars were the hallmarks of “The Good Wife” and its first spin-off, “The Good Fight.” But the standout was Carrie Preston, who played Elsbeth Tascioni, an eccentric and unconventional lawyer. Now Elsbeth has her own show, where she is hired as a supervisor for the NYPD. Her smarts and unique perspective make her a perfect fit for the role, but her eccentricity infuriates Captain C.W. Wagner (Wendell Pierce) and Officer Kaya Blanke (Cara Patterson). And, like its predecessor, Elsbeth will feature cameos from Jane Krakowski, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Blair Underwood, Rita, and more.
