44 years after starring in the hit movie Urban Cowboy, ’80s Hollywood legend Debra Winger looks completely unrecognizable.
The 68-year-old rose to fame with Hollywood hits such as “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “Terms of Endearment.”
She is perhaps best known for the 1980 romantic drama Urban Cowboy, in which she played John Travolta’s feisty lover.
Debra was nominated for numerous awards for her performance in the film, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress, the BAFTA Award for Promising Newcomer, and Best Motion Picture.
However, the star faded from the spotlight in the mid-’90s and did not appear on screen again for six years after the release of 1995’s Forget Paris.
Debra, now 68, recently came forward to appear at the New York premiere of Drive Away Dolls.
The actress, who sported her naturally silver curly hair, wore a dark blazer, blue blouse, loose-fitting dark pants and chunky black boots.
She accessorized with a multi-colored checked scarf and flaunted her sparkling blue eyes with black-rimmed glasses.
Debra was accompanied by her son Gideon Babe Ruth Howard, 26, who posed for a series of photos with his mother on the red carpet.
Although she looks almost unrecognizable from her movie heyday, she retains a similar fashion sense, including her once brunette’s thick curls and minimal makeup.
During her time away from Hollywood, the actress worked as a lecturer at Harvard University and also wrote a book about “retiring” from acting.
In her memoir, she describes how she chose to step away from the silver screen to build a life outside of acting.
“I love this job,” she wrote. “And I’m not really interested in business.”
In addition to being nominated for “Urban Cowboy,” she won the National Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress in 1984, and won Best Actress Oscars for “An Officer and a Gentleman,” “Terms of Endearment,” and “Shadowlands.” Nominated.
In 1996, Debra married writer and director Arliss Howard, whom she met on the set of the film Wilder Napalm. They have three children, one each from a previous marriage and a son, Gideon, born in 1997.
Before meeting Arliss, Debra was married to actor Timothy Hutton, with whom she had a son, Noah Hutton.
Winger’s profile has risen again in recent years with her starring role as Maggie Bennett on Netflix’s hit drama The Ranch.
Since returning to filmmaking, she has also appeared in episodes of Law & Order, Mr. Corman, and Intreatment.
In 2014 she received the TIFF Lifetime Achievement Award.
