WASHINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — A real-life treasure hunt began when Tracy Molendi went to her family’s home to pick up items from an estate sale.
Molendi runs a business called SOS Home, which uses the space for real estate sales for families who need to quickly move belongings out of their homes after the death of a loved one.
The item in question is an 8,500-page dictionary published in 1914 and weighing approximately 25 pounds.
Molendi said real estate sales tend to have some of the same items, but sometimes he comes across something unusual.
“There are always treasures out there, things that people have collected and hand-picked over their lifetimes. And we see the excitement on people’s faces when they come across something that speaks exactly to them. ,” she said.
They reported that while this is not the oldest book in the store, it is definitely the largest.
Molendi said she enjoys seeing people find things they consider treasures in her store.
“One of the most gratifying things we get to do here is see someone else get excited about an item that our client has cherished,” she said. .
She also said the store is another way to keep those items alive instead of ending up in a landfill.
