Research firm Omdia (via CNBC ) was able to estimate that each headset has a total “bill of materials” of $1,542.
That doesn’t mean Apple makes $1,957 for every 256GB. vision pro Sold. After all, the “bill of materials” doesn’t include how much money Apple spends on research and development, packaging the product, or marketing the device.
The most expensive part is
vision pro It’s a 1.25-inch micro-OLED display that appears in front of the user. This part is made by Sony. Omdia estimates that each display costs $228, and for each headset he would need two. An iFixit teardown revealed that the display has a resolution of 3660 x 3200 pixels. Compare this to the iPhone 15’s resolution of 2556 x 1179.

The R1 chip streams new images to the display within 12 milliseconds.
Apple declined to comment on the estimates, and CEO Tim Cook discussed such BOM (bill of materials) estimates, saying, “I’ve never seen anything close to accurate.” But that didn’t stop him from defending the device’s price. “From a price point of view, this product packs an incredible amount of technology into it.” The product has 5,000 patents, from silicon to displays, “significant AI and mechanical It’s learning,” Cook added. “We’re really excited about this because all the hand tracking, room mapping, all of this is driven by AI.”
