The super ultrawide monitor market is getting even more interesting. That’s because Acer is preparing to launch its massive Predator Z57 gaming monitor on its US online store for a hefty $1,999.
The Acer Predator Z57 ticks a lot of boxes. It’s a 57-inch 32:9 DUHD product with 7680×2160 resolution, 2,304 zones of MiniLED backlighting, HDR 1000, and 98% DCI-P3 color space coverage. It also has a built-in KVM switch.
Adopts a VA panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a curvature of 1000R. The refresh rate isn’t particularly great, but remember we’re talking dual 4K here. Even with the top-of-the-line RTX 4090, we’d be happy to hit 120 fps in modern, demanding titles at that resolution.
As with the KVM switch mentioned above, the connectivity options are decent, with the notable exception being the lack of DisplayPort 2.1 support. There are twin HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 1.4, and four USB 10GB/s downstream ports, one of which is Type-C and supports 90W power delivery. A 10W speaker is also included.
I would happily own a beastly monitor like this, but it would require upgrades to my desk, room, and possibly home to accommodate it. It’s perfect not only as a sim racing rig, but also as an all-around general purpose monitor. He has one generic 4K monitor for working from home, and I still run into limitations when I have several browser tabs, spreadsheets, Slack chats, and his email client open at the same time. . This solves that and a few more things.
Is the Predator Z57 a contender for our list of best gaming monitors? You have to compete with the better ones Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 G95NC. However, the Sammy costs $2,499, which is $500 more than the Predator Z57, so Acer’s challenger has the advantage in this regard.
It also competes with some nice 49-inch OLED options, although it doesn’t have as much pixel density as the Z57. OLED monitors have inherently appealing characteristics, but if you’re looking for a spectacle of over-the-top pixels, the Z57 is worth a look. Definitely going to get my eager mitts out for a review soon.
