Last February, Google announced Directions at a Glance for Android and iOS Maps, and a new setting called Directions at a Glance while navigating is now available.
Google Maps provides at-a-glance directions, showing you where to turn and live estimated arrival times right on your device’s lock screen. Android apps use periodic system notifications, while Google Maps on iPhone uses high-profile live activity.
At-a-glance directions also work on the route overview screen that appears after you launch Directions and before you tap Start. Google Maps provides directions, provides real-time ETA, and automatically updates the route if you take a different route, as shown in the sequence below.
After announcing details last February, Google announced in June that it would roll out at-a-glance directions for walking, biking, and driving modes on Android and iOS globally that month. However, live activity is still not visible on iOS.
Google Maps users using Android version 11.116 and iOS 6.104.2 will now see (via). android police)[設定]>[ナビゲーション設定]at the bottom of[ナビゲート中に道順を一目で確認できる]Settings: “See the latest estimated arrival times and next turns directly from your route overview or lock screen. Navigation data is collected to improve maps for everyone.”
It’s off by default, and this setting doesn’t appear in older versions of the app we’ve reviewed.
If “Get directions at a glance while navigating” is off, you’ll only see a blue dot indicating your current location. Once enabled, it will turn into an arrow pointing to your destination. This arrow typically only appears when you fully begin navigation. (This is the main difference I noticed without actually testing it on a live trip.)
If you turn this feature on or off directly from the route overview screen, Google will notify you with a message bubble. In fact, you can quickly enable/disable it from the “My Location” sheet by tapping the blue dot/arrow.
