Following the success of Apple’s augmented reality glasses, Meta will also be introducing its own glasses soon. The company, which has been working on AR glasses for years, plans to unveil a prototype sometime in 2024, and an early version could be unveiled. It is scheduled to be screened this fall.
The virtual reality glasses, named ‘Orion’, are expected to integrate real environments with digital reality and applications. According to the report, many Meta personnel have already begun experimenting with the glasses.
The AR glasses were developed in the company’s research labs under the watchful eye of CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Earlier this year, Zuckerberg posted some version of his glasses of meta on the desktop. A company official revealed that one of the products will be augmented reality glasses that the company plans to release. However, a company spokesperson declined to respond.
Augmented reality glasses are a central part of Meta’s plans to expand development of wearable products. Additional reports suggest the new glasses are expected to be the most advanced currently available, hinting at competition between the company and Apple.
Meanwhile, Tim Cook’s tech giant is ramping up production of augmented reality glasses after pre-orders sold out of 200,000 glasses even before they went on sale a few weeks ago. The company has not yet said when Apple Store shelves will be filled with glasses, but the glasses are not expected to arrive in Israel for the time being.
