Alex Garland’s Civil War just opened in theaters on April 12th, but pre-orders for the 4K UHD version of the film are already open. In fact, there are two different versions of him on sale, an Amazon exclusive version and a regular version, each with unique artwork. We’re still waiting for the official release date, but we can’t imagine it taking months to launch.
$35-$42
The Amazon exclusive edition of Civil War includes both a 4K UHD copy and a Blu-ray copy, as well as a digital version of the film. Unfortunately, this is all that is known at the moment, and details such as bonus content and whether or not there will be a steelbook have not been disclosed (although it does appear to be a steelbook version). However, it comes with special cover art depicting a close-up shot of the Statue of Liberty. Expect to learn more in the coming weeks.
If you’re not a fan of the Amazon exclusive cover art, you can also pre-order the standard edition of Civil War. It’s actually more expensive at the moment ($42), but it includes the same formats: 4K UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and digital. Its cover art is an expansive shot of New York Harbor.
“Civil War” is the latest film from director Alex Garland, whose previous films include “Annihilation,” “Ex Machina,” and “28 Days Later.” The story is set in a futuristic dystopian version of America, where a civil war erupts across the United States as four different factions fight for control of the land. The cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno, and Nick Offerman.
A review of Civil War gave the film a rating of 9/10, praising its chaotic storytelling and Dunst’s outstanding performance.
Critic Phil Owen said, “’Civil War’ is a little more dense than your average ‘Purge’ movie, and works best as an experiential experience, like an atrocity-filled theme park ride. But it still hits some of the same sweet spots as those movies.” “It was so effective as an experience that I was able to shake off the climactic gimmicks that would have seriously annoyed me in other movies. And you can’t help but love a movie that draws you in that much, at least. For now.” “
