Last week, Bleeding Cool Absolute Power In a piece of gossip entitled “Absolute Power Gossip: How Amanda Waller Got Her Hand on Zur-en-Ar,” we now look at the remaining third of the trilogy, Amanda Waller and the Brainiac Queen. Spoilers ahead, of course.
Bleeding Cool understands that Brainiac created Brainiac Queen as a Frankenstein-esque bride – we saw her slay an army of Czarnians for energy in the House Of Brainiac event – and it looks like she’ll next target superheroes for their powers, but as expected in the Superman book, Superman and Brainiac himself don’t get along.
Just as Amanda Waller seized the body of Zur-en-Aarh and brought him back to life at her command, she will likely do the same with the blank canvas of the Brainiac Queen as she falls to Earth after being rejected by Brainiac. Then, having been booted out of Superman’s story, she will take on the role of Superman.
She is discovered by Amanda Waller, raised as a stepmother, and taught that she is expected to fear and hate superheroes. All in a flash of twenty years in a virtual reality created by The N-R in the Sanctuary program. She is father and mother to Brainiac Queen on a Smallville-esque farm. Amanda Waller uses Brainiac Queen’s powers and uses them to her advantage to take down superheroes and worlds one by one. And she will win, it was foreseen…
Basically everything DC Comics has ever done Batman, Superman, Action Comics, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Flash, Suicide Squad, Titans, include Dark Crisis, Nightmare, Lazarus Planet and Beast World,it is Absolute Power #1. But does anyone notice?
Comic shop Big Bang Comics posted on social media, “ABSOLUTE POWER #1 is on sale for free today. I’ve read it and it’s a great book by two of DC’s top creators, Waid and Mora. But customers aren’t pre-ordering it (at the moment, pre-orders for this book are lower than WONDER WOMAN, Trinity’s lowest selling title). Of course, many people won’t decide until closer to the release date (some even decide on the day of release or even later!). But as a shop, low pre-orders make us less confident in betting on anything because it’s non-returnable – you’re stuck “in” what you order. This is risky and hard to get right. Can someone lend me a crystal ball?”
Bleeding Cool reported on a promotion that DC Comics is rolling out to comic book retailers, in which they’re offering extra, cheaper copies of Absolute Power titles if stores order in bulk. Of course, nothing is more effective at convincing a store to stock more books than the suggestion that a nearby competitor might not be ordering enough.
