Weekend Playlist: 40 Years of Great Performances
Is “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” the sweetest song to sing in the spine-chilling world of AMC’s The Walking Dead? It doesn’t matter, because Sunday’s intense episode (9 p.m./8 p.m.) is ominously titled “Contagion” and leaves little time to rest. The virus that took down Nerd Boy last week sparks bloody panic in his cell, reminding us just how illusory the concept of safety can be. “I haven’t seen anybody luckier in a long time,” observes former Army medic Bob Stookey (new regular Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) as the courage, fear and anguish are all on display during and after the latest crisis. Earning this week’s special bonus stripes is the fantastic Melissa McBride as Carol, who protects but doesn’t coddle the distraught girls, her mantra being, “If you want to live, you gotta be strong.” Meanwhile, Walker continues to close in on the prison gates and audiences can’t get enough of this riveting mayhem, as evidenced by the record-breaking turnout for last Sunday’s premiere.
