This isn’t the first time Prime Video has introduced an e-commerce shopping experience on its streamer. To promote “The Boys” spinoff series “Generation V,” Amazon has launched a virtual store selling products and home goods based on the show’s superhero school, Godolkin College.
Last year, the top two shopping channels, QVC and HSN, launched linear services on Freevee, which at the time was the only livestream shopping channel on the service.
Amazon Live launched in 2019 as a QVC-like shopping experience that helps brands discover their products and talents engage with fans. The company began offering it to Indian customers in 2022. The company says more than 1 billion customers in the U.S. and India streamed Amazon Live shoppable video in 2023 alone.
Despite Amazon’s success with live shopping, this format makes up a small portion of the e-commerce market. Last year, the value of live shopping was expected to be $31.7 billion, but total online retail sales in the U.S. reportedly reached $1.14 trillion.
