Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a delightful new fantasy anime that explores the high fantasy trappings of The Lord of the Rings and Dungeons & Dragons from an entirely new angle. Instead of following a plucky underdog like Frodo Baggins, Frienen follows the adventures of the powerful, cool-headed elf lady Frieren, and there isn’t even a demon king to worry about anymore, either. With the demon king dead and gone, Frieren can savor an era of peace, wandering the land with new companions and friends.

Frieren is a capable mage in battle, but her journey isn’t really about fighting the forces of evil or leveling up. Instead, Frieren is on a personal journey, since she wishes to get to know everyone around her to form meaningful bonds with them. As a well-read mage, Frieren also enjoys finding new magical grimoires and discovering new spells, so her journey is highly constructive. This means a variety of other fantasy anime characters would benefit greatly from joining her team, either to learn new magic, make new friends, or heal their souls with Frieren’s positive influence.

Anime fans might see Lucy Heartfilia the celestial wizard as a silly shonen heroine with too much fan service, but that’s only because Fairy Tail isn’t the most flattering context for her. Lucy’s actual character arc is more serious than that, and if she ended up in the world of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, anime fans would see her in a more positive light.

Lucy lost her mother at a young age and grew up in a stifling household with her father, Jude. She longed to see the world and explore its furthest reaches, so she ran away and joined the Fairy Tail guild. Ideally, though, Lucy would join Frieren’s party instead, giving her a more relaxing and tasteful fantasy adventure of treasure chest mimics and idyllic countrysides instead of petty arguing and fan service.

Nezuko Kamado has been on plenty of adventures with her brother Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer, but it wasn’t often a pleasant experience. Nezuko did make good friends along the way, such as the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji, but it was also a rough journey of hiding from the sun and fighting powerful demons like Daki and Hantengu. A kind, innocent girl like Nezuko deserves a more enjoyable fantasy adventure.

Now that Nezuko is immune to sunlight, she would benefit from an isekai adventure with Frieren’s group, where she could freely roam the world with a new team of friends. Nezuko would be an adorable little sister figure for Fern and provide a much-needed female friend for her, and if danger ever arises, Nezuko could help the team fight all kinds of foes, demons included.

8 Akira Tendo Could Explore and Make Friends With Frieren’s Protection

Akira Tendo may have no connection to the fantasy genre, being the protagonist of a subversive zombie anime series titled Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, but he does have the heart of an explorer. Akira detested working for an exploitative “black company,” so now he’s roaming the land to complete his bucket list, all while savoring his freedom. However, zombie hordes are a major obstacle.

If Akira wants to savor his free life more comfortably, he should get isekai’d to a pleasant world like Frieren’s, and team up with Frieren, Fern, and Stark for safety’s sake. There may be monsters in Frieren’s world as well as Akira’s own, but at least Akira can hide behind Fern’s tough magical shields while breathing fresh air at last.

At a glance, an ordinary high school student like Tohru Honda the shojo protagonist may seem like an odd candidate for Frieren’s team, but there are good reasons why Tohru would do well in Frieren’s squad. The forgettable isekai anime My Isekai Life starred an equally generic hero named Yuji Sano, who spent the first season aimlessly wandering a magical realm of slimes, dragons, and giant wolves, among other critters. Yuji’s only notable traits were his diverse magical skillset and his immense love of steak. He could both cast spells and control slimes, making him unusual — and powerful — in his new world.

Yuji Sano had no serious friends or allies in My Isekai Life, and that made him seem even more boring than he already was. However, Yuji’s character could be rebooted and improved if he got transplanted into the Frieren world, where the power of friendship would bring out the best in him. 2 Schierke Needs a Friend Like Frieren, Not Guts

Schierke was a young witch in the story of Berserk, making her debut in the lengthy Falcon of the Millennium Empire story arc. She lived in a secluded forest with her mentor Flora, and once Guts’ party arrived, Schierke joined them, seeing the outside world in far greater detail. It was an eye-opener for Schierke, albeit a brutal and grim one.
