Apple will soon expand its self-service repair program to the M3 iMac, M3 14-inch MacBook Pro, and M3 16-inch MacBook Pro, according to three support documents published today. (Update: Parts are now available for M3 Macs – see below.)
First introduced in the U.S. in 2022, Apple’s repair program allows customers to purchase genuine Apple parts and tools. Apple also provides manuals so that the customer can repair the device without having to go to his Apple retail store or his Apple Authorized Service Provider. Apple notebook and desktop repairs have been available since 2022, but repair components and instructions for M3 models just became available.
The support document covering the M3 MacBook Pro model details the replacement of the MacBook’s bottom case, the parts needed for the repair, and the tools needed to complete the repair. Apple provides a detailed list of part numbers for various iMac repairs, including displays, logic boards, fans, and housings.
As of this writing, some part numbers listed in support documents are not available in Apple’s self-service repair store, but more may be added in the near future. It’s not clear when Apple plans to announce an expansion of its repair program to its M3 Macs.
