A new rumor claims that Apple will permanently shut down its FineWoven production line, possibly spelling doom for the controversial accessory material.
Apple’s FineWoven iPhone case
Apple conducted a major marketing campaign to promote FineWoven, a leather alternative. This material was first unveiled during the iPhone 15 event and looked great in new condition.
It never lived up to the hype. And now it appears Apple is done with that material.
In a post on X, accessories curator Kostami claims that the line has been shut down.
Fine wovens are gone.
Because the durability was poor.
All production lines were stopped and removed.
Apple will move to a different material — again, not leather.See you in Leather Hell.

However, the origin of the data is not clear and there is no way to verify the report. In our experience with the material, it’s a terrible material for iPhone case durability and stain resistance.
However, the Apple Watch band has held up well. Perhaps the difference is how much surface area is exposed to significant damage.
Apple will continue to explore alternatives to leather. In recent days, the company has reiterated that it has eliminated leather from its product line.
