Speaker 1: Okay, there’s a rhinoceros on me now. Does everyone do this? Once you get the demo, start raising your hand? Speaker 2: The way most people experience his Apple Vision Pro is by going to the Apple Store and getting a demo. I’ve been covering Vision Pro for several weeks now, and this reporter had one more area to explore. What does Apple show customers when they test drive a high-end headset? I had to get my own Apple Store demo to see if this is the only interaction people have. . With mixed reality, Apple needs to do well first [00:00:30] My impression is: What will happen in 30 minutes that will make customers want to spend money and dive into spatial computing? So earlier this week, I went to Fifth Avenue to get the full Apple experience. We visited the flagship store in New York City. I’m Bridget Carey. Now she is one. Speaker 1: All Speaker 2: Correct. Test Drive Vision Pro An Apple Store employee will guide you through your Vision Pro journey. My store guide was Quinn. He made sure everything fit well and explained every step to me. [00:01:00] It gave me control and guided me through apps to keep trying. The guide lets you see what you’re doing on your iPad, so it’s super smooth. got it. Speaker 1: Please tell me that. Or Speaker 2: Look at something like a tutorial. Speaker 1: I don’t even know that Speaker 2: I should point out here that I wasn’t able to capture what was happening inside the headset during the demo, but here’s an example of what I saw. . Some of the footage we recreated is actually what Apple created in their promotional videos and his entire 30-minute demo. [00:01:30] It went by so quickly, but I’ll just share some of the big highlights. Once the headset is calibrated to your eyes, you’re ready to use and learn. It starts with the Photos app. You’re looking at some vibrant, professionally taken photos that are far better than any of my vacation photos. What’s great are the panoramic nature scenes and of course the 3D spatial photos and videos. You may have seen the sample video of kids blowing out the candles on their birthday cakes at the Apple show, but here’s what I’m saying. [00:02:00] In the demo, the object in front of you is so large that you can almost stick your nose into the birthday cake. The brain connections are so strong because everything feels so close together. Speaker 1: That’s really cute. Speaker 2: They went above and beyond Speaker 1: That was so cute. Speaker 2: There’s an artistry to the kind of 3D scenes he creates that Apple creates. While you’re doing the demo, you’re probably wondering what you can do with 3D video. Speaker 1: Yes, it’s very big. It feels like you’re standing there, but you still know you’re in his Apple store.Speaker 2: So we jumped. [00:02:30] into an immersive background environment. This is what I think of as the Vision Pro wallpaper. Turn the crown dial and exit the Apple Store to find yourself on a tranquil lake in Mt. Hood, Oregon. Mount Speaker 1: Hood. It’s wonderful, is not it. Your Speaker 2: Your eyes see everything, it’s very clear. Screen capture recordings cannot be fully evaluated because all they reveal is what the eye is focusing on at that moment. [00:03:00] But I could see every detail. Honestly, Speaker 1: If you stop, you see all these little little stones. Speaker 2: I think there are small pebbles and Speaker 1: Gravel. I just stand there expecting. Speaker 2: That’s the detail that surprises me the most. They had me read the text in Safari. I open the recipe app and just a few minutes later I’m back on Mt Hood, and it’s still raining. These days, you can see each drop of water falling into the lake. Speaker 1: It’s raining. It is raining right now [00:03:30] In my environment, it didn’t rain before. It doesn’t feel wet. Do you get it. I can hear it. Speaker 2: Speaker 1: I can see it raining quite far away. light rain. Speaker 2: If you do, it’s like a sun shower, but Speaker 1: That’s strange. wait a minute. The environment changed throughout the day. That’s right, that’s right Speaker 2: That’s right. So not only do people get a surprise moving into what is essentially a living wallpaper, but at this point in the demo I have full ownership of my space.I’m on the move [00:04:00] Windows anywhere you want. We’ve been reading things near and far, and now it’s time for the finale. They take me to the movies. When you open your Apple TV, you’ll see a clip from “Avatar The Way of Water.” This is his film designed for 3D, where you see your characters swimming with sea creatures as they loom right in front of you. Apple uses James Cameron to sell this, but Apple also uses Mario as in the movie “Super Mario Bros.”Just a few seconds of Princess Peach, Mario, and Toad looking outside. [00:04:30] Express kingdom and awe with epic soundbites. They knew Speaker 1: Which clips they chose just for this. The same goes for water. Speaker 2: These short clips evoke a sense of otherworldly spaciousness, like I’m still sitting at a plain wood table in the store, but the hope of the future is laid out before me. . A grand finale that brings together the best of 3D. We have a collection of immersive video clips from Apple Vision Pro specials. Now begins with this shock. what are you seeing?sung by Alicia Keys [00:05:00] right in front of you. Speaker 1: I didn’t expect that. Speaker 2: This wasn’t your average movie. All this content is just hugging you in 180 degree 8K 3D. Speaker 1: Okay, I see Alicia Keys singing right in front of her. She could touch her Steinway and even touch the microphone. Oh my god. Speaker 2: You jump from clip to clip, looking at a large open landscape, and then, boom, a close-up of a baby rhino walks up to you. These are amazing visual places I’ll never visit and someone walking the 3000 foot High Line [00:05:30] Sky above the Norwegian fjords. Yes, that was good. I was sitting. It also poked fun at what’s possible in sports. It gave me a unique perspective. I’m watching a soccer match from above the goal net. I watch baseball from near the dugout as the players run to first base. Just a few minutes of sensory overload and you’ll eat it all with a spoon. Speaker 1: I would watch a whole nature show like this. Speaker 2: This wasn’t my first time wearing the Vision Pro headset. A walkthrough appeared when I borrowed the headset from CNET Reviewer [00:06:00] Scott Stein. Check out the link to the full video about what it’s like to share Vision Pro with others. And what really made this demo different than sharing it with others is that if you take off the headset during the demo, you can put it back on immediately without having to readjust it. You don’t need to set it up again like you would if you were sharing it with someone else. It also strengthens the sense of ownership and control, and confidence you have while in store. When you hear a demo, it feels like it’s yours. But this shop [00:06:30] The demo showed us what Apple believes is the best feature, and that is 100% entertainment. Before I left the demo, I asked what I would do if someone came in here and asked what it’s like to work with this machine. Speaker 2: How about typing that? Yes, the demo guide can be pivoted to answer your questions. I was shown what it’s like to practice a keynote speech at the Steve Jobs Theater. I opened Notepad and tried typing, but after watching all of AK’s immersive videos, I wasn’t impressed. If I were to do a demo again, I would like to try it. [00:07:00] I am typing on a real keyboard in front of me. But Apple has approached the unique and emotional side of this technology by focusing on family homes and children’s movies, showing what’s possible with the best entertainment, and learning about your own family memories. I think it makes you think and makes you want to watch it again. Dive into a new world and feel awe. Yes, Apple is spending every demo moment trying to tug at your dreams and tug at your heartstrings. And it pulled my face off, albeit just a little.Speaker 2: I find myself trying to adjust. [00:07:30] It’s a little loose overall, so it didn’t feel too tight or heavy. I think if the demo lasts longer than 30 minutes, you’ll be able to feel it more. I walked away feeling confident in using it, but also with a bit of a desire to keep trying. There was no talk about games. What else could you see if you had more time? I definitely want more baby rhinos. Please take me to Baby Rhinoland any time.I don’t feel like I need to buy one right now, but I was very curious to see what it could do [00:08:00] Entertainment may be involved. You may feel feelings of FOMO later. This is going to be an interesting time for people to play around with his 3D content and see what’s possible. Oh, there’s one more thing. one more. Many people have tested what Vision Pro can do with his 3D photos and videos, and it’s been shared for everyone to check out. Speaker 2: We have a crowdsourced database of spatial videos and panoramas. The site is called Share spatial everything.com, and Vision Pro fans came together to create this place. [00:08:30] to share photos. When you go to the Apple Store to demo the Vision Pro, they have all these professional 3D photos and videos of him preloaded in the walkthrough, but when you take it home, you only see what’s in your photo library. . So the best way to see what’s possible with 3D is for people to share their spatial content with others. Shoot your own spatial videos with landscape videos using iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Just click the little Pro icon to record in 3D. If you don’t have Vision Pro, you can view it just fine. [00:09:00] These files can also be viewed within the Meta Quest headset. If you’d like to run your own Vision Pro demo, you can reserve one at apple.com or in the Apple Store app. You can also talk to someone in the store if you can walk in. If you tried the in-store demo, let me know in the comments how you felt about the experience and was it significantly different from mine? If you were to try something, what would you most like to try? Thanks for visiting. See you next time.
