In addition to releasing iOS 17.4 RC 1, Apple updated several other beta software releases today. This includes the fourth beta of the upcoming visionOS 1.1 update. The new version adds mobile device management support for corporate email and calendars, modern emojis, and persona improvements.
Additionally, Apple has released the fifth beta of other non-iOS software updates. This includes macOS Sonoma 14.4, tvOS 17.4, and HomePod 17.4 updates. No sign of watchOS 10.4 beta 5 yet.
Notably, Apple has only upgraded iOS 17.4 from beta to release candidate status. This could mean the iPhone update will arrive a little earlier than the Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and HomePod updates. Considering the iPad isn’t under the same release pressure, iPadOS 17.4 could also be released separately.
Why the asynchronous release? Apple is driven to some extent by regulatory deadlines in the EU’s Digital Markets Act. Apple has until March 6 to comply with new requirements, including allowing app markets to compete with the App Store.
