Smartwatches have helped save many lives.
Apple Watch has proven to be a lifesaver on many occasions. Many reports have shown that it has saved lives by using sensors that measure things like heart rate and electrocardiograms to detect abnormalities in a user’s health. In a recent incident, his Apple Watch saved the life of a cyclist who was involved in a tragic bicycle accident in New York. The incident occurred last month when real estate broker Eric Zollinger was riding his Citi Bike home from the office in heavy rain.
But my commute took a serious turn when I encountered a hole hidden beneath the floodwaters. His bike hit a pothole and he was thrown off his bike onto the sidewalk. Mr. Zollinger continued his journey home despite injuries to his nose, face, and knees, but then collapsed, hitting the bathtub in the bathroom and passing out.
Luckily, his Apple Watch detected the fall and automatically dialed 911, alerting emergency contacts to his location. Notably, the smartwatch has a built-in fall detection feature that can connect users to emergency services if it “detects a severe fall.”
“The next thing I remember asking was, ‘911, what’s an emergency?'” Zollinger said, recalling the incident.
He then went to a local hospital for tests. Fortunately, scans showed he had no broken bones and he was later released.
Zollinger praised the smartwatch’s quick response and believes it saved his life. “I don’t know what would have happened to me if the watch hadn’t warned me,” he said.
“I feel very lucky and grateful that the Apple Watch helped me and what happened. It’s a very smart watch. Apple has thought of everything,” Zollinger added.
Smartwatches have helped save many lives. Last year, a 42-year-old man in the UK said his smartwatch saved him from a heart attack.according to Express.UK Ltd., Hockey Wales CEO Paul Wapham was on his morning run near his home in the Morriston area of Swansea when he felt severe pain in his chest. He managed to contact his wife through his watch, and his wife rushed him to the hospital.
If your Apple Watch detects that you haven’t moved for one minute, it will automatically make an emergency call and send a message with your location to your emergency contacts.
