Apple appears to be planning to skip the M3 revision of the Mac mini in favor of a more important update featuring the M4 chip.
Bloomberg’s Mark Garman previously reported that Apple would update its Mac mini line with M4 and M4 Pro chips toward the end of 2024 or early 2025. He amplified that in a report on Sunday, saying the M3 probably won’t appear. After all, it’s a Mac mini.
Mac mini was last updated in January 2023 with M2 and M2 Pro.
The Mac mini M2 Pro update also includes Thunderbolt 4 port, Wi-Fi 6E, HDMI 2.1, and Bluetooth updates for M2 Pro models. It’s unclear whether the next Mac mini will involve further hardware changes beyond the M4.
The M4 is believed to feature significant upgrades to the chip’s Neural Engine component, along with other AI enhancements. Such improvements are expected to be a major topic of discussion at his WWDC conference in June.
Since the M1 was first introduced, Apple has staggered the release of some models. For example, his iMac was upgraded to his M3 chip in late 2023, skipping the M2 entirely.
We are still waiting for other models. Mac Studio and Mac Pro are now included in the M2, as is the Mac mini.
