Anthem Sports & Entertainment has named Andy Shoon president of its television networks AXS TV and HDNet Movies.
Schuon will oversee all aspects of AXS TV and HDNet Movies. His cable television channel AXS TV mainly specializes in music-related programs such as concerts. It is also home to professional wrestling and mixed martial arts matches. HDNet When it comes to movies, this channel focuses on theatrically released movies and documentaries.
“Andy Shune is a true pioneer in our industry and is the driving force behind many defining pop culture landmarks that have left an indelible impact around the world,” said President and CEO of Anthem Sports & Entertainment. CEO Leonard Asper said in a press release. “His reputation as a legendary brand builder is well-respected, and his extensive expertise will be essential as we usher in an important era for both AXS TV and HDNet Movies.”
“Len Asper and I have been talking for some time about the opportunity to leverage the reach of AXS TV and HDNet Movies. He wants me to lead these networks and take them to new heights and new platforms. I was excited when he asked me to,” Schuon said in a press release. “It is my life’s work to connect content, especially music-related programming, with audiences. Now that music moves at the speed of social media, we want to be the only voice of record for video presentations of music across all platforms. I have the qualifications.”
Schuon certainly has extensive experience in the world of music-focused television. In 2013, he co-founded music-oriented digital cable television network Revolt Media & TV with Sean “Puffy” Combs (Comms subsequently took a leave of absence from the company in 2023). He also served as executive vice president and general manager of Warner Bros. Records, MTV, MTV2, and he also served as executive vice president and head of programming and production for VH1. In the latter role, he served as executive producer for the VMAs and MTV Movie Awards.
This executive was also responsible for moving MTV from Times Square to MTV Beach House. This change in the ’90s increased the franchise’s reputation and opened the door to new marketing and sponsorship opportunities.
Mr. Schuon has also served as chief digital officer and president of artist services for Ticketmaster and Live Nation, as well as president of programming and marketing for CBS Radio.
