You may have seen metal dice before, but you’ve probably never seen them like the ones on display at the Summit Dice table at Emerald City Comic-Con 2024.
Ben Moser and his wife, Rachel Brace, run Summit Dice, which sells unique metal casting dies made using the same process used to make fine jewelry. Moser, a mechanical engineer by trade, “wanted to do something a little different in the world of dice.” He uses a mechanical engineering design program, which allows him to create complex designs while maintaining the balance required for the mold.
All numbers on Moser’s dice are thrown into the dice. This means that 20 is heavier than 1. However, to ensure the balance of the dice, Moser adds a small piece of geometry inside each die as a counterweight.
Moser dice are primarily cast in brass and bronze, but occasionally in sterling silver and, on one memorable occasion, solid gold for marriage proposals (custom D20 20 was engraved on each side).
Rachel and Ben can be found on the Emerald City Comic-Con exhibit floor, booth 10641.
