Philadelphia 76ers wing Kelly Oubre Jr. met with the press Friday afternoon ahead of Game 1 between the Sixers and New York Knicks on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
Oubre expressed his excitement to play in “The Mecca,” but he couldn’t help but take aim at the celebrities who often sit courtside at Knicks games.
“The fans are pretty crazy, you know?” Oubre began. “They have a really good culture of being wild and loving basketball to the core. There’s a reason they call this the ‘Mecca’ of basketball. The lights are so bright. They’re famous people. I’m going to give you a million dollars.” Just being there, I don’t care about the game, but that’s what they do, I’m looking forward to it, this is one of my favorite places to play. ”
Actor Ben Stiller, a die-hard Knicks fan who is always courtside on Saturday nights, made sure to agree with Oubre’s comments, and talked a lot of trash in the process.
“Oh, I think I care more than you think I care…Kelly, who are you?” Stiller posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
It’s no exaggeration to say that the matchup between Oubre and Stiller is one of the most unexpected matchups in recent memory ahead of an exciting first-round series in the Eastern Conference.
