Dune: Part 2 There are so-called sequels that are actually half of the original, Zendaya movies, and critical hits. What I love about this sandworm epic is that it also gave composer and mega-nerd Hans Zimmer an excuse to get his friends to reinvent ancient instruments and make music. The 10-episode limited series, based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell, is produced by husband-and-wife collaborators Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, and stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, and Cosmo Jarvis. . The story is set in 1600, when a civil war began in Japan, involving Jesuit priests and Portuguese merchants, and raising questions of religion and class. — Roxana Hadadi
from menu The show, a collaboration between screenwriter Will Tracy, director Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs, is a darkly funny piece of work that is “absurd but too upsetting to be very funny”, with Kate Winslet slipping away. This limited animated series is set in a futuristic Nigeria, where a lizard with supernatural powers is tasked with finding a missing girl. Originally conceived as a series of short films, Iwájú was produced by Kugali, an entertainment company specializing in African culture. —R.H.
Some of the worst movies ever made are getting the Criterion treatment this month, thanks to a new streaming roundup dedicated to the Golden Raspberry Awards.Let’s start with Elaine May’s infamous fiasco.
