A fragile standalone follow-up to Alicia Bognano’s 2023 album Lucky For You

Alicia Bognano’s indie rock project Bully has released a shocking piano ballad titled “Atom Bomb.” Stream the new song below.
On this stripped-down track, Bognano holds nothing back as he opens up about the ex-lover who left him. “I’m embarrassed to admit that I’m obsessed with people the way I was obsessed with you,” she sings, her voice filled with pain. “I bite my tongue, I don’t want to give in/You’re already gone and I stay alive/Like an atomic bomb waiting to be ignited.”
In a statement, Bognano explained that “Atom Bomb” was not necessarily a piano ballad. “The song was originally recorded with a drum machine and electric guitar. It was also pretty fast,” she said of the standalone track. “When I played the demo, [producer] JT Daley, he came up with the idea of transferring it to piano. I remember him saying out loud, “Can you believe I could trust someone like this?” ”

She continued, “We both started out as people who were recording, mixing, and producing our own records to avoid the vulnerability that comes with working out creative ideas with others.” That was a big step for me.” That was our first real bonding moment, one in which we recognized each other’s willingness to try new things, and when one of us stopped. We were able to see each other’s ideas through to the end before they were abandoned. ”
“Atom Bomb” is accompanied by a live performance video directed by Bree Marie Fish and filmed at MMK Studios in Nashville. Check it out below.
