Celebrity Big Brother winner David Potts has revealed he once dressed the same as his twin brother, but now admits they are “complete opposites”.
During his appearance on the reality show, it was revealed that David had a secret twin who led completely different lives in professional football, and people said it was hard to believe they were related.
Engaged father-of-one Matthew Potts, 30, told MailOnline he needed to “produce proof” that David was his brother because the two were so different.
David gave us some insight into what it was like growing up with twins. He told New magazine, “Matthew and I grew up wearing the same clothes until we were six years old.”
“Now I can’t imagine him walking around in a hot pink blazer with his legs out.”
“We’re opposites. We’re not exactly the same, so we’re not even similar. We don’t look like each other. He and my brother are very similar, he’s quieter, It’s very chill. I’m a different person, so I enjoy it.
David was scouted by ITV bosses to appear in Ibiza Weekender, while Matthew became a physiotherapist at Championship side Huddersfield Town.
Despite wearing the same clothes until he was 10 years old, Matthew has never had a tan and has the same long legs as David, who flaunted his pins in hot pants at the start of Monday night’s show. Unfortunately, he says that he has not inherited it.
Matthew revealed his pride in seeing David change Lewis Walsh’s perception of his brother, saying that people are often quick to judge, but in the end they always love his honest personality.
He said: “We’ve taken two very different paths.
“When people find out who he is, it’s a problem for people… I’m not going to go around shouting about it, but when people find out, they’re very shocked, And we always have to provide evidence that we’re related, because they’re not.” I can’t believe it, but this is so funny.
“While we wear the same clothes and are placed in the same bubble as twins, the reality is, and as we have proven, we are very different people.
“When I first saw him, he was loud and the celebrities in the house were quite surprised by him at first, but now they got to know him and within five minutes… Your perception of him completely changes.” That’s a credit to him, and he’s great in that sense. ”
According to Matthew, David’s family, including he and his older brother, mother, and father, all supported him as he established a career in the entertainment industry, appearing on reality shows such as Celebs Go Dating and Celebrity Ghost Trip. He says he is incredibly proud of his performance.
Their joy came after David endured a difficult childhood where he was bullied at school before coming out as gay.
It wasn’t until David spoke openly about his sexuality that he was able to fully accept who he really was. Matthew admits that his uphill battle taught him a lot about the LGBTQ community.
He said: “David suffered from bullying. He had a tough time growing up, but he has since become the man he is now and has grown in confidence.
“It was hard for me too, because I grew up seeing him the way he was, and I never thought anything about it, and then suddenly all the kids in high school were talking about him. Now you’re just thinking, what’s wrong with him? And there was nothing wrong with him… Today we are a more open and accepting society. is.
“That’s why we’re so proud, too, because he got through that part of his life and it made him the person he is. He doesn’t care about that now. I am very confident.”
“From my point of view, it’s been a huge learning curve, and it’s given me a new appreciation for what he went through, and as a community, what people go through as they grow up, and the struggles they have. And I gained a greater understanding of it in the best possible way.
Matthew says that not only are their life directions different, but their sense of style is also different.
Matthew recalls that after ten years of wearing the same clothes, David started experimenting with fake tans. That’s how fans today recognize him, as well as baring his dazzling white teeth and hairless legs.
Matthew said, “He looks amazing!” He has the best legs I’ve ever seen on a man. I didn’t get them on my own…I got a half-decent hairline and that’s it.
“Tanning is not for me. I don’t mind using a sunbed once in a while.”
“It started around the time he came out more publicly to my family. It was a humbling moment where a weight was lifted off his shoulders and he was finally able to be himself. Ta.”
David’s brother said it was a dream come true for him to appear on Celebrity Big Brother as he grew up watching the ITV2 show.
He predicts his mind was “blown” as housemates Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh were a family staple on Saturday night.
The family said David changed the opinion of former judge Lewis, who had initially agreed with Sharon’s opinion that Sharon should be “at risk” of removal after analyzing her housemate from a secret room on her first night. I was pleased.
He said: “The X Factor has been very popular in our house since I was a kid, so meeting Sharon and Louis would have blown his mind.”
“Obviously, with Louis, his perception wasn’t the best at first, but he was being himself and we quickly turned a corner with him.”
