Construction is well underway on the West Hollywood Holloway Motel, located at 8465 Santa Monica Blvd. Photos show construction vehicles hard at work Wednesday afternoon, with demolition well underway inside the motel, which appears to be completely destroyed. With this update, the project will serve the community as a Holloway transitional housing program.
The City of West Hollywood acquired the Holloway Motel property on April 12, 2023. The Holloway Transitional Housing Program provides people experiencing homelessness with a safe and supportive space to stay for 90 days, giving residents support and time to transition from the streets to housing. . The facility will be managed and operated through a partnership with Ascensia, a nonprofit homeless services agency, to provide comprehensive case management and support services and keep program participants safe.
In June 2022, the City received a $6,007,661 California Housing and Community Development Homekey Grant and the West Hollywood City Council unanimously approved the purchase of the property for conversion into a transitional housing program. The Holloway Transitional Housing Program will be funded through state and local resources matched by the City’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
By purchasing the Holloway Motel and converting it into transitional housing, the city significantly advances the goals of the Homeless Initiative, created in 2016, to quickly and cost-effectively increase the city’s available adult transitional housing beds. It is designed to build on the city’s proud history of inclusivity and empathy in service delivery and respond to the unique needs of local residents.
