Denmark announced on Monday that it will conclude its investigation into the explosion on the Nord Stream pipeline, which transports gas from Russia to Germany, in 2022.
“Based on the investigation, the authorities can conclude that there was a deliberate act of sabotage against the gas pipeline. At the same time, it is assessed that there are no grounds necessary to proceed with criminal proceedings in Denmark.” The daily newspaper Politiken reported the incident, citing Copenhagen police.
Earlier this month, Sweden announced it was ending its investigation into a mysterious explosion that blew up an undersea pipeline, concluding that its courts had no jurisdiction over the case.
Several countries have been publicly blamed for the explosion, although the degree of evidence varies. Ukraine has claimed Russia was behind the bombing, and Poland has suggested Moscow was responsible, which the Kremlin denies.
According to Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Denmark’s suspension of the investigation into the Nord Stream pipeline explosion “bordering on absurdity.”
