Google is rolling out a Chromecast with Google TV 4K update that adds Fast Pair and a new audio output switcher.
STTE.231215.005 (from STTL.231114.004) applies the Android security patch level to January 2024. This 169MB update once again brings “other bug fixes and performance improvements.”
However, this update brings two notable changes for users. As announced in January, Fast Pairing is now available for Chromecast with Google TV. When I opened my Pixel Buds Pro case, I saw a notification in the top right corner and quick settings that said “Saved devices are available.” Once selected, a large prompt will appear that takes up half the screen and select “Connect”.
Meanwhile, a new “Audio Out” switcher arrives as a QS tile that joins Screensaver, Wi-Fi, Accessibility, and Bluetooth. Current devices record inline, and Google first showed this off at his CES last month.
“HDMI Output” is the default and clicking on the tile with the shortcut to “Connect another device” will bring up the “Other Devices” section.
There are no firmware updates after installing Chromecast Remote. The last update was less than a month ago and included the December 2023 security patch. For reference, Google has released six system updates for Chromecast with Google TV in 2023 (January, April, May, July, October, December).
