Three Rivers Celebrity Softball Game Date Announced
The Washington Wild Things will host the 4th annual Three Rivers Celebrity Softball Game. The event will once again benefit Cameron Hayward’s Hayward House Foundation. The game will be hosted by 93.7 The Fan’s Dorin Dickerson and will be held on July 13th at Wild Things Park in Washington, Pennsylvania.
Although the full list of participants has not been announced, Hayward is likely to take part in the event again, as it will clearly benefit his charity work once again. Last year, Team Berg, which featured Cam and Connor Heyward, Pat Freiermuth, Alex Highsmith and former Steelers QB Kenny Pickett, won 16-6.
Jerome Bettis Trade Day
On this day in 1996, the Pittsburgh Steelers acquired running back Jerome Bettis from the Los Angeles Rams in a trade. Bettis became one of the league’s best running backs and a legend on the team. The Steel City Star unearthed a video of the Bettis trade announced live by former Steelers QB Mark Malone during the 1996 NFL Draft.
Watching trades announced live and hearing commentary from the draft crew about what was going on with the Steelers at the time is a great trip down memory lane. Joe Thiesmann was a member of the committee and suggested that the Steelers should acquire Mike Alstott. That would give the team a big backfield. Instead, the team acquired OT Jermaine Stevens, who lasted just two seasons with the Steelers.
Troy Fautanu mocks Steelers
One player the Steelers are interested in ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft is Washington’s Troy Fautanu, who has the ability to play any position on the offensive line. CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan’s mock draft has the Steelers selecting Fautanu 20th overall.
“The Steelers have two new quarterbacks on the roster and are using the draft to protect a player who has earned a starting spot by bringing in a versatile lineman in Fautanu who can tackle and kick inside. Sullivan wrote about the selection.
Daniel Jeremiah recently said on a conference call that some teams view Fautanu as a top center in the draft, and that could be the role he could fill for the Steelers. They don’t need a guard, despite his long arms. (34 1/2 inches), he’s only 6,036 inches tall, and it’s hard to imagine him playing tackle in Pittsburgh. Either way, Fautanu is certainly an option for Pittsburgh at No. 20 overall.
