Fifteen people were injured in an accident involving a tram at Universal Studios Hollywood on Saturday.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene at 3900 Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood around 9 p.m. Saturday.
Investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said 15 people were injured, but despite previous reports, none of the injuries were serious and none of the injuries were life-threatening. All victims were hospitalized.
“The collision caused several passengers to fall from the vehicle. Los Angeles County Fire Department treated people at the scene, and several were transported by ambulance to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. There is no separate provision.”
Early in the investigation, deputies reported they believed the crash was the result of some sort of mechanical failure, but California Highway Patrol investigators determined that was not the case.
The CHP issued a statement Sunday afternoon saying the accident occurred in the backyard of the studio shortly after the tram passed the “Jurassic Park Cars.”
According to the CHP, the last car of the four-car streetcar was making a left turn onto Avenue M when it struck a guardrail on the right side of the road.
The collision caused the vehicle to tilt and several passengers were thrown from the tram, the statement said.
The cause of the crash remains unknown. Alcohol or drugs are not considered factors.
SkyCal flew over the scene and a group of people could be seen being treated by emergency personnel. Another, even larger group was pulled off the tram and put on a bus.
Universal Studios Hollywood officials said, “Saturday night during the studio tour, a streetcar collided with a guardrail while making a left turn.” “Our thoughts continue to be with the guests who were involved. We are grateful that the injuries were minor, according to government reports.” We are working closely with agencies and continuing to review our tours.” Incidents and safety remain our top priority. ”
Officials said the Studio Tour resumed operations on Sunday with a changed route.
