What you need to know
After playing three games on the road, Elon is on his way home. They and the William & Mary Tribe will compete in the Coastal Athletic Battle at the Schar Center on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. Both players are heading into this match with a little more motivation considering their loss in their last match.
Elon suffered a heartbreaking loss the last time they took the court, but unfortunately, the loss handed down on Saturday was a little tougher for them. They found themselves unwillingly on the receiving end of a punch to the gut against the Pride, 87-64. Elon realized that it would not be easy to win unless he worked as a unit and recorded 17 fewer assists than his opponent.
TK Simpkins performed well for the losing team, scoring 24 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. In fact, this is the most points he has scored all season.
Meanwhile, William & Mary’s recent rough run got a little rough Saturday after losing eight straight. They lost to the Seawolves 75-62. Unfortunately, this loss continues a disappointing trend for William & Mary against the Seawolves, making it their third straight loss.
However, this loss doesn’t tell the whole story as several players played well. His best performer was Gabe Dorsey, who had 15 points, five rebounds, and two steals. The team was led by Trey Moss, who had 16 points and four steals.
Phoenix’s loss dropped their record to 12 wins and 17 losses. As for the Tribe, they have been on a rough road lately, losing 12 of their last 13 games, putting a noticeable dent in their 8-21 record this season.
Looking ahead, Elon will be the favorite this time around, as experts predict him to win by 3.5 points. Be careful if you are thinking of playing the spread. Even though Elon is playing at home, his 3-7 record against the spread isn’t exactly encouraging in itself.
Elon fell short in their last meeting in January, losing 77-70 to the Tribe. Will Elon have better luck at his home rather than on the go?
