FloSports, a global sports media company headquartered in Austin, Texas, was recognized this week by the International Sports Writers Association for Excellence in Video Athlete Profiles at the annual AIPS Sports Media Awards.
The international awards received more than 1,800 entries from 141 countries across 11 categories, which were narrowed down through a series of judging stages including longlist, shortlist, top 10 and top 3 voting stages.
“Bob Beamon: The Legacy Beyond The Leap” was selected as a top three finalist in the Video Athlete Profile category. Chronicling a cross-section of the civil rights movement that saw Beamon set a then-world record in the long jump at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, this story reflects the New York native’s past and present in the sport.
The feature was launched during Black History Month 2023 and was featured across the FloTrack and MileSplit channels.
FloSports has ranked in the top 10 for video athlete profiles in AIP’s Sports Media Awards for the past two years, previously with “Allie Ostlund: Under Pressure, Reclaiming Her Life” and “Caitlin Little: Fifteen Forever.” I received an award.
The overall winner in each category will receive a cash prize of $8,000, the runner-up will receive $3,000 and the third place winner will receive $2,000.
FloSports was recognized in two other categories during the longlist announcement.
– MileSplit’s full-length novel “Noor’s Pursuit: A Young Muslim Woman’s Fight For Equality” won the award for Best Color Work.
– The feature-length documentary “San Elizario: Una Forma De Vida,” released on MileSplit, won the Video Documentary Award.
