The Great Bend High School Stream team, under the leadership of video production teacher Dan Heath, has taken its live streaming capabilities to new heights with recent equipment upgrades, providing an immersive viewing experience of GBHS athletics and activity on YouTube. It offers.
Our dedicated team of passionate students has employed cutting-edge technology to power our live streaming productions. Recent upgrades allow for multiple camera angles, instant replay, and picture-in-picture display of the scoreboard, creating a dynamic and engaging presentation for viewers.
In his 21st year of teaching at GBHS, Dan Heath has witnessed the rapid evolution of live streaming technology over the past decade.
“Technology has only recently allowed us to create high-quality work with affordable equipment, and thanks to a $428 grant from the Educational Foundation, we were able to purchase additional cameras and related equipment. “We were able to secure that,” he said.
Students who join the Stream team will gain hands-on experience operating cameras, managing switchboards, communicating live during broadcasts, troubleshooting in real-time, and more.
The program not only provides technical skills, but also promotes teamwork and adaptability, skills that are important for the future of media production.
“As the need for streaming increases, so does the demand for students to participate in our programs,” Heath said. Interested students are encouraged to enroll in her GBHS Panther Media class, which includes video production, A/V production, and digital media. “Digital content is integrated into many career paths. Panther Media provides hands-on learning opportunities for students.”
Recent basketball games, particularly the Feb. 27 Substate game, demonstrated the capabilities of our stream team, with over 120 live viewers on YouTube at any given time during the event.
The teams will compete again in the substate championship game on Friday, March 1, when the Panthers host Hutchinson.
Viewers can find and subscribe to “Panther Media” on YouTube. For more information, contact Great Bend High School at 620-793-1521.
