Aloy is one of my favorite characters in all of media.she’s a certified badass horizon series, and has made crossover appearances in various other games. His one of these crossovers is GenshinHere, Aloy is considered one of the worst playable characters on the roster.
So what happens when you make an objectively bad character the main character in a character-based RPG like the one below? GenshinBecause of my decision, I definitely went through several stages of grief caused by Aloy.? That choice also requires a lot of negotiation, but as they say, where there’s a will, there’s a way, right?
For PlayStation users, Aloy arrived in Teyvat on September 1, 2021. I didn’t have a PlayStation, so I asked her friend to log into my account on her own gaming console. When I got her account back, she was there. Although it’s animated, it’s definitely Aloy. She even had her own special form of vision.
As a theory maker, I immediately looked into her kit. Happily, Aloy was able to deploy a bomb that looked just like the Freeze Bomb. horizon zero dawn. She also had her unique coil stacking mechanism that allowed her to infuse cryo damage into her normal attacks.
The good news ended there. Aloy’s skills had horribly long cooldowns, and there was also a long wait before being able to get coil stacks. It was nearly impossible for her to get a consistent Cryo infusion without sacrificing damage with Sacrificial Bow, making this part of her kit effectively non-functional.
Interestingly, Aloy’s Burst had a much shorter cooldown compared to the skill. Perhaps the best play was to ignore Aloy’s coil mechanic and spam the burst? I bent down to make it work.
Stage 1: Denial
I changed Aloy’s build many times to get it to work. Freeze Aloy didn’t have the consistent damage to compete with other cryo options. Mono Cryo Aloy utilized teammates more efficiently, but did not modify Aloy itself. Reverse Melt Aloy had the highest numbers, but most of the team’s overall damage came from Shanlin or Rosalia.
We also created a detailed spreadsheet to simulate Aloy’s damage on different teams with different builds. The numbers have always been terrible.
There’s no way the HoYverse would release such dysfunctional characters, right? Genshin It’s doable. I must be doing something wrong.
Stage 2: Anger
I turned to me Genshin My friends on Discord came to pretty much the same conclusion. We sympathized with how bad Aloy’s kit was. She may have been an unhinged character, but she deserved more than this. After venting my frustrations in private, I set out to find a solution again.
Stage 3: Negotiation
At this point, I threw all my fancy spreadsheets in the trash. There was no way to gracefully play Aloy. Higher numbers had to come only from more powerful gear.
I stole the Skyward Harp from Fischl and gave it to Aloy. I drew Shenhe to increase Aloy’s cryo damage. Indeed, with a 5-star weapon and his 5-star support, Aloy’s damage will be worth it.
It didn’t matter that Fischl was an actual meta unit that could make better use of the weapon. It didn’t hurt that I spent precious Primogems to get dedicated support characters. I was a crazy Aloy woman who put all of herself into a scary character.
Stage 4: Depression
Unfortunately, it was in vain. No matter what I did, Aloy wasn’t up to par. Although her team was able to clear her Spiral Abyss, she had a hard time getting all 36 stars.
So, sadly, I benched Aloy. For months, she sat unused and gathering dust. Instead, I set about finishing a super hard playthrough. horizon zero dawn. Genshin Aloy was just a sad shadow horizon Alloy.
Stage 5: Acceptance
Over the next several updates, HoYverse continued to release powerful new characters. Genshin Impact. Dendro’s arrival shook up the meta in an unexpected way. With so many different ways to build a powerful team, completing Spiral Abyss has never been easier.
Even before we started running Abyss, we already knew that the team of Leiden National, Nilou Bloom, and Gagneux Freeze was up to the task. I wanted to take on the challenge.
It turns out that one of the only challenges left is to completely clear the Abyss With Aloy.
Aloy is no longer sitting on the bench. Clearing difficult content takes time, but you don’t care anymore. It’s so nice to see my favorite video game characters living their best lives as adventurers in Teyvat.

The co-op experience was also surprisingly healthy. It’s been years since Aloy was distributed to players, so having her around has become a kind of flexibility. I have never received any negative reactions from other players regarding Aloy’s damage. Most people are just excited to see unusual characters.
Aloy is a lesson in playing what you love, not something meta.I uninstalled it after a long time horizon zero dawn To make room for other games, but seeing Aloy appear in Genshin I feel like she never left my hard drive.
