TL;DR
- Google Contacts version 4.26 introduces a new Connected App Box.
- The new section moves different contact methods for apps like WhatsApp and Telegram into a drop-down menu.
- The new look means you won’t see the same phone number over and over again.
With the latest update to the Google Contacts app, you may have noticed that each contact entry has a cleaner look. Among other changes, version 4.26 of the Google Contacts app introduces a separate “Connected Apps” box to reduce the list of options that appear as soon as you view a contact (via thesp android).
Before the update, you might have seen phone numbers of people you know, then some WhatsApp contact options, and a few extra lines for Telegram. This provided quick access to actions like starting a WhatsApp voice call, but it seemed crowded and unorganized. All of these contact options related to other apps are now organized in the “Connected Apps” box below the main contact information.
As you can see in the screenshot below, the connected apps box initially displays one line entry for each app, with a drop-down arrow next to it. Clicking on the arrow will expand the box for that particular app and display different ways to contact you: voice calls, video calls, and messages.
This change means that when you open a contact entry, you only see the contact’s phone number. All the options to get in touch through a variety of connected apps are just one tap away than before.
We like this new look. Not only does it look better, but it’s also less confusing for some users. It can be a little disconcerting for some people to open a contact page and see a wall of the same phone numbers over and over again.
