Electric car drivers can now get even more help on the road from Google Maps.
Google Maps and Search is rolling out new features tailored specifically for electric vehicles, including EV charger locations and specific information about hotels with on-site chargers. The map also helps drivers plan charging stops in real-time during their trip.
In 2023, 1.6 million electric vehicles will be sold in the U.S., a 60% increase compared to 2022. But one common concern about owning an electric car is not knowing where to charge it.
One of the features currently available on mobile is an AI-powered overview that details the exact location of chargers, as drivers have difficulty locating chargers in multi-storey car parks. Google created an overview based on millions of reviews posted by other users on Google Maps, including things like the type of plug used and charging time. The map gives drivers a detailed overview of their journey to the charger.

When you’re on the go, Google Maps’ in-car map also shows nearby chargers, including real-time port availability and charging speeds. While Google Maps provides directions, it also suggests the best charging locations for your trip through one or more destinations. Recommended stopping locations are determined based on your car’s battery level. The company says Google-powered cars will be the first to have these two features in the coming months.
To help drivers plan overnight trips, the Google Search travel page will also show hotels with on-site EV charging.
