Nothing has been officially announced yet, but if I were to take an educated guess, I’d say the Google Pixel 8a will be announced on May 14th, the first day of Google I/O 2024. Two new leaks have now been revealed. You can find out more about what you can expect from this handset.
First, we have leaked renders of the Pixel 8a courtesy of Android Headlines. The four colors on display here are mint, porcelain, obsidian, and bay (also known as light green, pale grey, dark grey, and light blue).
These colors are similar to those seen on the Google Pixel 7a, but it looks like mint has been used instead of coral (orange). Mint is an option on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, but it looks flashier here. This may simply be due to the way the image is edited.
As Android Headlines points out, the 2022 Google Pixel 6a also debuted in a lighter mint color, so this isn’t a first for the mid-range series. Recently, it was discovered that the Pixel 6a was removed from sale on his Google Store, leaving space for the Pixel 8a.
Design for a lifetime
The renders you can see here confirm previous leaks. The design is similar to the Pixel 8, and indeed the Pixel 7a. The corners could be a little more curved, but not by much, and this is still a phone that looks very much like a Pixel.
Google may have already revealed the Pixel 8a design in an ad for Google Fi Wireless, and the photo in that ad matches the rendering in Android headlines. The color would also make sense if the green was toned down a bit.
Elsewhere in Pixel 8a leak news, serial tipster Evan Blass We found some tutorials for the Pixel 8a published on US carrier websites, which is not ideal from Google’s point of view. It remains to be seen how long they will remain active.
Another potential upgrade we’re hearing is a bump to a 120Hz screen, although the Tensor G3 chip could be underclocked to keep the phone below the Pixel 8 in terms of performance. Everything should become clear within another month.
