Google’s April 2024 Android security update has been released and includes several important patches. It also fixes an annoying Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro bug that prevents users from using the camera properly.
According to the latest Android Security Bulletin and Pixel Update Bulletin, the latest update addresses several high-severity security patches and one critical Pixel-specific patch.
Beyond the security patch, however, there are some camera improvements, including one that addresses an issue on the Pixel 8 that prevented users from accessing automatic exposure adjustments after tapping the screen to focus an image.
Two issues have been fixed. The first is the stability of the camera when switching between different zooms in certain situations. This affects Google Pixel 6 and newer models. Second, it should resolve an issue where a black halo artifact appears in the viewfinder when transitioning from photo mode to video mode at 1x zoom. This affects both Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
The April security patch is rolling out to all Pixel models starting with the Google Pixel 5a. Although this is not as substantial as the March update that gave users expanded Circle to Search functionality and 10-bit HDR video options, these new security patches and bug patches serve an important purpose, so you can improve your security Protect your device as soon as possible to reap the benefits.
Pixel Watch will also be updated
The April update for Pixel Watch has also been released. This includes a new feature on Pixel Watch that can tell you the time using haptic feedback.
It uses vibrations to tell the user the time and chooses between two different vibration settings called Numeric and Concise. The former measures time more precisely with minute updates, while the latter vibrates every 45 minutes.
