Indie dance-pop trio Gossip are back! Today, the band announced that their first album in over 10 years, Real Power, will be released on March 22nd. The first single “Crazy Again” is out now.
Real Power, released by Sony Music Entertainment, is Gossip’s first studio album since 2012’s A Joyful Noise. According to Steregum.com, the song was produced by Rick Rubin, who also worked on the band’s 2009 album Music for Men, during sessions at his home studio in Kauai, Hawaii, back in 2019. It is said that he did.
Based in Portland, Oregon, Gossip includes vocalist Beth Ditto and multi-instrumentalist Nathan Howdeshell (who performs as Brace Payne). The two met as teenagers in Searcy, and left Arkansas in 1999 with friend and drummer Kathy Mendonca to form Gossip in Olympia, Washington. In the same year, they released a self-titled EP on K Records. The band’s debut LP, That’s Not What I Heard, was released in 2001.
Mendonca left the group in 2003 and was replaced by drummer Hannah Briley. Her other albums include “Movement” and her 2006 hit “Standing in the Way of Control.” The group disbanded in 2016, but reunited for her 10th anniversary tour in 2019.
