ASUS RT-AX86U Pro (AX5700) Dual Band WiFi 6 Expandable Gaming router
The ASUS RT-AX86U is one of the best gaming routers available today. It offers the fastest dual-band router speeds on the market and comes at a very affordable price. Most routers with comparable speeds cost $300 or more. It adds Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and improves on its predecessor’s venerable AC86U. This dual-band router features 160HMz channels, MU-MIMO, and beamforming. It boasts speeds of up to 5700Mbps over Wi-Fi 6 (861Mbps on 2.4Ghz and 4.8Gbps on 5GHz). The AX86U is classified as a gaming router, so it comes with gaming-centric features such as ‘Mobile Game Mode’, WTFast game accelerator, and Adative QoS to provide a lag-free, low-latency mobile gaming experience.
On the connectivity side, the AX86U has both a standard Gigabit modem port and a 2.5 Gbps WAN port that can support true 2 GB speeds from the modem. There are also two USB 3.0 ports for connecting external storage or printers. Like most high-end routers, the RT-AX86U includes a total of four Gigabit switch ports. An additional benefit is that the 2.5Gbps WAN port can be used as a 5th Gigabit switch port when not in use.
For those concerned about security, this router has that covered too. ASUS AiProtection Pro features a comprehensive suite of firewalls, security scanners, malicious site blockers, intercept and block infected devices, and a two-way intrusion prevention system. It’s built right into your router, so you don’t need to install anything on your PC. Trend Micro security update validity period.
This one is newer Professional This model was released in December 2022 and has been upgraded to a slightly faster processor (2GHz vs. 1.8GHz for up to 11% better performance on CPU-intensive tasks). It typically commands a $50 price premium over the AX86U, but that’s not the case at this time.
