RAPIDS CITY, South Dakota – Nothing says Earth Day like a hike in the Black Hills.
Hikerbabes Community: South Dakota Chapter visits Iron Creek Trail #15 in Keystone.
Co-Ambassador and former U.S. Army Sergeant Major Diane Oelwein led a group of 20 area hiker babies for a day of fun and bonding.
“We celebrated Earth Day with a hike. It’s a 5-mile hike along Trail 15 in Iron Creek. It’s so beautiful. And there are about 20 women with us. We had a lot of fun. We go hiking, but we also do biking, kayaking, and canoeing. Find him in his Hikerbabes community on Facebook. ”
The scenic Iron Creek Trail is flat and quiet, following a stream lined with ponderosa pines and rocky cliffs. Hikers donned boots and poles and crossed several streams on wooden planks, bridges, and rocks.
The South Dakota chapter has grown to more than 2,000 members and is part of an international organization whose hikers make pilgrimages to destinations such as Hawaii, Iceland, and Switzerland. In fact, Erwein plans to hike all three destinations this year.
