Netflix in the US is getting a very late Christmas movie in the form of an R-rated horror comedy There’s something in the barn It is set to make its streaming debut on Netflix next month.
The film, scheduled for release on March 20, 2024, will be distributed to Netflix through the Sony First Window deal. This means most Sony Pictures titles will be released on Netflix for 18 months following an exclusive theatrical window.
Although it is a Norwegian film, the film is entirely spoken in English. This is the story of a family who inherit a secluded cabin deep in the Norwegian mountains and fulfill their dream of returning home. There they encounter bloodthirsty gnomes with axes (and saws) to grind.
The project is directed by Magnus Martens, written by Alexander Kirkwood Brown, and produced by 74 Entertainment, XYZ Film, and others.
martin starr (known for Spider-Man: No Way Home and incredible hulk) lead the cast together amrita acharya (game of thrones, Good Karma Hospital) Kiran Shah, Zoe Windsor-Hansen, Townes Banner, and Kare Helevan Larsen also star.
Surprisingly, the film received fairly high scores from critics, although it only had a few dozen reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie has a score of 79% on comprehensive review sites. Dread Central, a site specializing in all things horror, says:
“Depending on your particular taste in Christmas horror, Magnus Martens’ There’s Something in the Barn is a serviceable blend of horror and comedy, but one that may not be of any benefit to the elf community as a whole. It won’t happen either.”
On the viewer side, it’s more mixed, with an evenly mixed rating of 51% on RT and 5.5 out of 10 on IMDb.
