Google Maps has had the ability to view buildings in 3D while navigating for years, but recently started rolling out that view to Android Auto and CarPlay experiences. Here’s how to disable it:
3D Buildings in Google Maps lets you see 3D representations of buildings around your route in your regular navigation view. This will help you better understand the space you are trying to navigate. However, it is not suitable for everyone. Fortunately, turning off this feature is relatively easy.
How to turn off 3D buildings in Google Maps in Android Auto
Android Auto makes it very easy to turn off 3D buildings in Google Maps.
Open the map full screen on your car display to see the settings shortcut, and scroll down the page to see the 3D Buildings toggle. This is on by default.
The same settings also work for vehicles with Android Automotive.
The Google Maps app for Android has a similar toggle ([設定]>[ナビゲーション]). However, this setting is not always reflected in Android Auto. It seems that only in the latest (beta) version this setting is synced between his Android and the car’s display.
How to turn off 3D buildings in Google Maps with CarPlay
Unfortunately, with CarPlay, this process is not so easy. One of the reasons is that CarPlay’s Google Maps app bad.
To disable 3D buildings in Google Maps in CarPlay, you must first disconnect your iPhone from your car. Next, open the Google Maps app, tap your profile picture, and[設定]>[ナビゲーション]Go to. There you’ll find a toggle for “Show 3D Buildings” that you can turn off.
If you toggle that setting while it’s on your phone, CarPlay will also reflect the change.
