What you need to know
If the oddsmakers’ predictions come true, Arizona State’s near future could be bright. They and the Washington Huskies will meet in a Pac-12 game Saturday at 2 p.m. ET at the McKale Memorial Center.
Unfortunately, Arizona’s winning streak came to an end at six on Thursday. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 77-74.
However, this loss doesn’t tell the whole story as several players played well. His most productive player was Caleb Love, who had 27 points, five assists, and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Oumar Baro, who had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Washington ultimately got what it hoped for on Thursday. The team narrowly escaped the Sun Devils with a score of 84-82 and won. With such a high score, both teams will likely do some extra defensive drills.
Several players had solid performances to lead Washington to victory, but no one was better than Kolen Johnson, who had 17 points, seven assists, and two steals. Braxton Mare was also a contributor, recording a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
The Wildcats’ loss ended their home winning streak at 13, dropping them to 20-6. As for the Huskies, they have been on a roll lately, winning three of their last four games and improving on their 15-12 record this season.
Saturday’s game is shaping up to be a master class in shooting. Arizona is shooting 49.3% per game and cannot afford to miss this season. However, Washington is shooting 47.4% from the field this season, so it’s not like they’re struggling in that area. Given these competing strengths, it will be interesting to see how their conflict plays out.
Everything went right for Arizona in their last meeting with the Huskies in January 2023, with the Wildcats winning 95-72. Will Arizona find success again, or will the Huskies have a better game plan this time? We’ll soon find out.
