West Ham need to break Bayer Leverkusen’s 43-match unbeaten run if they are to continue their Europa League campaign tonight.
On the road at BayArena last week, they were thoroughly outplayed, allowing 33 shots and only converting one of their own.
Łukasz Fabianski’s determined defense and good goalkeeping kept the score level until the 83rd minute, when Jonas Hofmann scored. Victor Boniface, who also came on as a substitute, scored his second goal in stoppage time, increasing the lead to two points.
West Ham have only won one of their last six league games, but will face a side who have won 38 of their 43 games in all competitions this season.
West Ham will need to beat Europe’s only unbeaten team if they hope to reach the European semi-finals for the third year in a row, but top scorer Jarrod Bowen could feature after being sidelined.
