Well, here we go again.
We’ve caught wind that another recent horror movie favorite with absolutely no need for a follow-up will also reportedly be getting it anyway. This time the victim is Are you ready or not? — 2019’s critically acclaimed instant horror-comedy film classic that propelled the filmmaking collective Radio Silence into mainstream status (before they took over the film industry) scream franchise) and made star Samara Weaving one of the top scream queens of the time.
Similar to my reaction to the announcement of they follow (And as with any new sequel, remake, or reboot), I find the reported information contradictory. are you ready 2 The InSneider is in development. On the one hand, I don’t feel there’s any need to add a second chapter to a movie that already has a virtually complete story (and received a 5-star review from us), but on the other hand, I I want to. You don’t want to be the guy who has an open mind about this kind of thing and preemptively judges what could be a second home run. Perhaps what might help put my mind (or yours) at ease is to consider below the potential pros and cons of the sequel to one of the best horror movies in recent memory.
Why I don’t want to see a sequel to ‘Ready or Not’
If you haven’t seen the eventful ending yet, Are you ready or not?now is your chance to be like our beloved protagonist. Get out while you can, big spoilers ahead.. If you’ve seen all the movies, keep looking.
This thriller follows Grace, who is tasked by her new family of wealthy board game developers to randomly choose a game to play on their wedding night as part of a long-standing tradition. The game chosen is “hide and seek”, in which she is actually chased to her death by others who are convinced that she will perish if they do not capture and sacrifice her by sunrise. means. They find out the ritual wasn’t a lie, and after seeing everyone explode and get covered in blood, Grace goes outside the now burning building to get some smoke. In the moment that immortalized her as the great Final Girl of our time, when a firefighter stops and asks what happened to her bloody bride, she cheekily reveals that her “in-laws” answered.
Apparently, in the original screenplay by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, Grace was supposed to die, but directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillette opted for a more forward-thinking and explosively gory development. I felt very relieved. A more perfect ending to a horror movie. So that’s where I believe this story Are you ready or not? Indeed, this is how it should end, and not just because of the perfect execution of the ending.
First of all, Grace survives one of the most traumatic ordeals ever experienced by a human, but it turns out that her new husband, Alex (Mark O’Brien) and his family of Satanists made worse by the fact that it is in the hands of Winning everyone’s approval was probably difficult enough, but do the filmmakers want to torture her even more? Second, how do they expect to incorporate her into another violent escapade like that and in a way that makes sense for her? Because we don’t see her agreeing to another marriage proposal or even remotely approaching anyone who falls into the 1% after that.
Trying to make an unnecessary follow-up to a one-off horror film that was both critically and commercially successful will most likely not produce the same result.as a fan of Are you ready or not?I already wanted to see it again, saw it during its first theatrical run, and watched it again a few months later on a plane, but I don’t want to see it fall victim to such a fate .
Why I want to see a sequel to ‘Ready or Not’
So it seems that one of our own writers, Sarah El Mahmoud, does not agree with my opinion. are you ready 2 And in fact, I was hoping for a sequel just a month after the first film was released in 2019. In her article on the subject, she actually makes some good points about why the original deserves a sequel. In addition to slow and steady box office receipts and widespread critical acclaim, she said the sequel would delve deeper into the history of Le Doma “Dominion” and reveal what other families are under control of. Mr. Leveil believes there may be an opportunity to do so. I have some ideas of my own, which I’ll get into in a moment, but first let me explain why I’m also somewhat open to this idea.
Despite the sarcastic murmurings from before, we get another glimpse of the evil world. Are you ready or not? It actually seems fascinating to see more of Samara Weaving’s grumpy survivalist Grace in particular. The Australian actor will reportedly reprise his role. By the way, I still don’t dislike movies that involve Radio Silence, if They at least submit approval by signing on as producers. I think that’s a good sign. Not to mention, filmmaker Adam Robitel, who is reportedly helming the project, has already released some impressive work in the genre – including 2014’s slick found footage thriller; Taking Deborah Loganand the escape room movie.
Given the promising details provided so far, I think there are worse ideas out there. Are you ready or not? Sequel. The question is, what is it about?
How Ready or Not sequels actually work
As mentioned earlier, are you ready 2 It really should happen, and most importantly, it needs a good story. For this to truly be a work of art, the plot needs to be freshened up, avoiding repeating the events of the original, and if Weaving is indeed a game to be revived, Grace should be plausibly incorporated into the mix. I think you need to be able to do that. In fact, most of my suggestions relate to our beloved Final Girl, each in a different way.
For example, Grace inherits the Le Domas family fortune (given that the firefighters manage to save the mansion from ruin at the end), leading to a haunted house movie that furthers the original’s theme of family dysfunction. You could also do that. Then, she struggles with her in-laws’ revengeful desires.Or maybe the story will go something like this glass onion or die hard 2 It introduces a whole new set of bizarre and violent situations with new characters, and one that Grace will find herself involved in in some way – perhaps even at the psychiatric rehabilitation facility where she’s admitted to work through recent trauma. Dew.
A particularly intriguing idea, despite the obvious contradiction to my previous request, would be a prequel rather than a sequel, depicting another dangerous hide-and-seek game from the family’s past. That would mean removing Grace as the main character, but she could appear in a modern-day cold open, or, another fun idea, casting Weaving as the first victim in the Le Domas family’s dangerous game of hide-and-seek. There is sex.
I don’t think there’s anything I personally can do at this point. Are you ready or not? If a sequel is indeed in the works, we might want to hold off on hoping for the best. That’s exactly the game we play.
