This hot beauty product is getting great reviews, but is it just lip service?
Since its launch nearly 10 years ago, Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask has quickly become a cult favorite among editors, TikTokers, and beauty-savvy shoppers. On Amazon, the product currently has a 4.6-star rating out of his over 25,000 reviews, with fans calling this potted balm “magical,” “perfect,” and “worth every penny.” “There is,” he praises.
As someone who suffers from chronic dry skin and lips, I needed to know if the product was worth the hype, so I grabbed a bunch of different delicious flavors and got down to business.
What is Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask?
The brand describes its star product as a “leave-in lip mask that delivers intense hydration and antioxidants while you sleep,” but doesn’t need to be stored for overnight use. Many fans of this balm apply it throughout the day.
First introduced in 2015, the product is packed with the brand’s proprietary antioxidant-rich berry fruit complex and three nutritional ingredients: coconut oil, shea butter, and murumuru seed butter, another powerful antioxidant. It is made with some vitamin C.

all flavors
Much like the Bombel Lip Smackers that I (and other millennials) loved as a teenager, Laneige lip masks come in a variety of delicious flavors.
Berry, Gummy Bear, Vanilla, and Sweet Candy are the OGs, but the brand is constantly introducing new limited edition varieties. Recently, mango, pink lemonade, and cotton candy have been added, and they tend to sell out quickly.
I was able to get the berry, gummy bear, pink lemonade, and vanilla versions for review. Also, the limited edition caramel apple flavor smelled just as amazing as I imagined.

Celebrities who love it
It’s safe to say that celebrities are obsessed with this ointment. Delilah Belle Hamlin and Julianne Hough both admire Page Six style, and Kate Moss discovered this style through her daughter Lyla.
Kendall Jenner and Ashley Benson both keep it in their bags, Kate Hudson says she wished she had invented it, and Charli she even joked to British Vogue. If I had the money, I would also turn the plane around. ”
Other famous fans of the product include Brooke Shields, Drew Barrymore, Kaia Gerber, Alix Earle, Kelly Ripa, Kike Palmer, Nina Dobrev, and Sydney Sweeney. The latter has also been appointed by Laneige as his first-ever global brand ambassador in early 2024. Phew!
our review
Let’s start with packaging. The mask comes in a round pot, and while you get a fair amount of product for the price (0.7 ounces or 20 grams), I’m not the biggest fan of balms and creams that you have to scoop out of the tub. They are inherently unhygienic.
Each lip mask comes with a small spatula that can be used for stain-free and germ-free application, but I’ve already misplaced two of them. It would be nice if Laneige added a groove to the lid so the tools could snap into place and stay secure.
That said, I immediately liked the texture of the product. It’s a combination of a silky balm and a thick ointment, and unlike ointment-type lip products, it’s surprisingly non-greasy. And each flavor I sampled really smelled amazing. It’s hard to choose a favorite, but I love the original berry. It’s a classic for a reason.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Sweet Candy
As I mentioned earlier, I have very dry skin and my lips tend to get especially dry during the winter months. It was during this exact time that I decided to test this product. I applied a small amount before bed and was happy to find that it was still on my lips when I woke up. In my opinion, it’s a trace of a solid lip product. (Many I tried were gone without a trace by morning.)
Of course, I didn’t just use it at night. I also love using it as a long-lasting balm during the day. It is worth noting that some people may not like the glossy finish. For example, my husband said he probably wouldn’t use it because it resembles a lip gloss. (I didn’t particularly want to share my stash.)
Strong Points
- Full of nutrition, no sticky feeling
- Delicious aroma and lots of taste!
- long lasting
Cons
- expensive
- Pot-shaped packaging is not very hygienic
- Contains fragrances that are potential irritants

conclusion
Overall, the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask lives up to the hype. A few complaints about the packaging aside, this product really packs a punch in the hydration department, and the scent is pleasant too.
At $24 it’s not cheap, but a little goes a long way and you get a fair amount of product in each pot. I’ve found that one tub lasts 6 months to a year, even when used multiple times daily.
Of course, the difficult part is trying not to collect them all.

Test method
For about a month, I tested different Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask flavors both overnight and during the day, varying the application method using the included spatula and my fingers. Some guys on TikTok swear by mixing the mask in the bathtub for best results, so I tried that too, but it doesn’t affect the effectiveness of the product either way. It seemed like it.
Throughout the test, I prioritized the following points:
- hydration:I have very dry skin and lips, so this was the most important factor.
- endurance: Did the product last several hours or overnight as advertised?
- Aroma/flavor: Was it comfortable to use?
