IKEA is unveiling new gaming furniture that subverts the usual dark, edgy “gamer” aesthetic and is designed to blend easily into existing home decor.
The seating is the main focus. These include an armchair that folds up for lounging, a rocking-style chair that sways with your body movements, and an inflatable donut-style chair with a matching footstool.
The Brembol collection also includes a “gaming station” that can be folded into something resembling a wardrobe, with a folding tabletop, integrated PC tower storage, and cable management. Some storage boxes can also be used as side tables, display shelves, and fabric accessories such as mouse pads, rugs, and throws.
It’s a little hard to determine whether these pieces of furniture qualify as “gaming” furniture, but I think that’s probably the point. Anything that is designed to accommodate long periods of sitting is suitable for gaming, and not everyone wants gaming furniture as part of their home. It looks like it’s sponsored by an energy drink company. IKEA says the Brenball collection takes inspiration from street sports and athleisure, and its combination of neutral and bright colors easily blends into modern homes.
“At Bremboll, we embrace the idea that games should be comfortable for everyone and can be found anywhere in the home,” IKEA product design developer Philippe Dire said in a company press release. “It’s important to make it easy for people to create spaces that accommodate gaming, living, and everything in between.”
Although most of the IKEA press images are of children, Dire admitted: The Verge This range includes ages and is also suitable for adults. No pricing has been announced yet, but we should know more about the Brenball collection before it launches in September.
